#1 What This State Means

After a power cut, the Spectrum WiFi 6 router goes through the same states it shows when it is first switched on. Spectrum’s manual describes the status light in a sequence: a blue or green flashing light while the device is booting up, then a blue or green pulsing light while it connects to the internet, and then a blue or green solid light once it is connected. So a blue or green light that is still moving after an outage is the router working through that sequence, not a sign that it has broken.
The manual does not describe a separate state for “after a power outage”. The sequence is the same as a normal start-up, so the same colour and pattern can mean either. What changes is how long you should expect the light to take. The router has to start up and then reach the internet again, and it can only do that once the modem and the local network are back as well.
This page covers the Spectrum WiFi 6 router family only: the the SAX1V1 family. The manual’s status-light table is for that family. It does not describe the start-up lights of Spectrum’s modems or other routers.
#2 The start-up sequence
| Stage after power returns | Status light, per Spectrum’s manual | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Booting up | Blue or green, flashing | Wait for start-up to finish |
| Connecting to the internet | Blue or green, pulsing | Give it time to reach the internet |
| Connected to the internet | Blue or green, solid | Check your devices if they still cannot get online |
| Problem reaching the internet | Red, pulsing | Check the cable and modem, and check for an outage |
The sequence ends at solid blue or green. A pulse that keeps going is still a connection in progress, and a red pulse means the router has a connectivity issue. Use the sequence to decide whether the router is still starting or whether it has a fault.
#3 Steps to Troubleshoot
- Wait for the router to finish starting up. A flashing light is booting, so do not unplug it while it flashes.
- Wait for the pulse to settle. A pulsing light is connecting to the internet, which can take time after an outage.
- Check the modem. After a power cut the modem also restarts, and the router cannot connect until the modem has a connection again.
- Check the cable from the modem to the router’s Internet port. Make sure it is firmly connected at both ends.
- Check for a Spectrum outage in your area. An outage can keep the router pulsing or turn it red after a power cut, so check before restarting.
- If the light turns solid and devices still cannot connect, check the devices. Solid blue or green means the router is connected, so reconnect each device to the Wi-Fi network.
- If the light turns red and pulses, check the connection. Red pulsing is a connectivity issue, so check the modem and cable, then reboot once if the red pulse continues.
- Contact Spectrum if the light does not settle. Give the model, the colour and pattern, how long it has shown, and what you have already checked.
#4 What If Scenarios
Q: The light is blue and flashing for a long time after the power came back. Is it broken? Not on the manual’s reading. Flashing blue or green means the router is booting up. Give it time to finish, and do not unplug it while it is flashing.
Q: The light is pulsing after the power came back. Should I restart it? Not while it is pulsing, because a restart begins the process again. Wait for the pulse to settle. If it keeps pulsing for a long time, check the modem and any outage, then reboot once.
Q: The light is solid blue, but my devices do not have internet. What now? Solid blue or green means the router is connected, so the problem is likely the device or its Wi-Fi connection. Reconnect the device, then check the modem if the other devices also cannot get online.
Q: Did the power cut erase my Wi-Fi name or password? The manual does not say a power cut changes your settings. A reboot keeps personalised settings according to the manual, and only a factory reset removes them. Check your settings in your Spectrum account if you are unsure.
Q: My Spectrum device is a modem, not the WiFi 6 router. Does this apply? No. The manual covers the WiFi 6 router family only. Use the page for your device.
